I'm a Chef! ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.

By using the app, you agree to this policy.

Information We Collect

Account Information

If you create an account, we may collect your email address and login credentials.

Ingredient Photos & Cooking Step Photos

If you upload photos to identify ingredients or verify cooking steps, those images are securely transmitted to our third-party AI provider (OpenAI) for processing. Photos are used solely for ingredient identification and cooking guidance — they are not sold, shared publicly, or used for advertising.

Preferences & Usage

We collect recipe preferences, dietary selections, saved recipes, shopping lists, and general app usage data to personalize your experience.

Technical Data

We may collect basic device and app performance information to maintain and improve the app.

How We Use Information

We use your information to:

• Generate recipe suggestions
• Personalize recommendations
• Maintain your account
• Process subscriptions and manage your plan
• Improve app functionality

We do not sell personal data.

AI Processing & Third-Party Services

I'm a Chef! uses OpenAI's API to power three features:

• Recipe Generation — Your ingredient lists and cooking preferences are sent to OpenAI to generate personalized recipes.
• Ingredient Photo Identification — Photos you take of ingredients are sent to OpenAI's vision model to identify items.
• Cooking Step Verification — Photos of your cooking progress are sent to OpenAI's vision model for real-time guidance.

Only the minimum data necessary for each feature is transmitted. We do not send your name, email, or other personal identifiers to OpenAI. Data sent to OpenAI is subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy.

You will be asked for consent before any AI feature is used for the first time. You may decline, though the affected features will not be available without consent.

Subscriptions & Payment Processing

I'm a Chef! offers optional paid subscriptions ("I'm a Chef Pro") managed through Apple's App Store. We use RevenueCat as our subscription management platform.

• Payment processing is handled entirely by Apple. We do not store credit card numbers or payment details.
• RevenueCat receives anonymous purchase receipts to manage entitlements. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
• Subscription status (active/inactive) is stored locally on your device to enable or restrict premium features.

Community Board

If you share photos to the Community Board, the following data is visible to other users:

• Your dish photo
• The associated recipe title, cuisine, and difficulty
• An anonymous chef name (generated from your account, not your real name)

Your email and account details are never displayed publicly. You can delete your community posts at any time.

Data Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored on secure infrastructure. While we take reasonable steps to protect your data, no system is completely secure.

Data Retention & Deletion

We retain your data while your account is active. You may request account deletion at any time by contacting:

Children

The app is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Updates will include a revised effective date.
